So I tweaked out my apartment/bsmt into a home studio. I always had it setup but i was missing a closed up, tight vocal booth to add that "Studio Feel." At first i was just going to go to a Pro Studio and just record there...BUT i looked at some of the pricing and said forget it. I invested alot of time and money into my equipment, so i might as well utilize it. I wanted to build a vocal booth from scratch but i definately did not have the space to do that...so i looked and looked and scratched my head and looked again....then i saw my coat closet...a light bulb went off in my head! Bingo, thats the booth! NOW i know to some this might seem ghetto or un PROFESSIONAL, but thats all i have to work with. I cleaned out the closet, got rid of everything until it was an empty space...washed the walls, swept. Then I went out and bought some foam...bed foam (egg crate foam) from Walmart...Some say this doesnt work...but it works for Me and it looks PRO. I then laid down carpet on the floor, bought some small touch lights and put a small fan in the booth. I put my mic/stand and reflection filter in the booth (which is a portable booth within itself)
I tested the new vocal booth and it sounds tight and there is definately a difference in acoustics compared to singing just in the room! For those who want more detail, check me out on youtube. Just type in Dave Cirino and find the "How to Setup a Home Studio" tutorial
