I think I wrote about this in an earlier blog, but oh well it came to me again cause its important!
Sometimes in order to better your future, you have to re visit your past. What do I mean? LOL...Man i was listening to one of Jimi Hendrixs songs...it was one of those songs that make you just think you know, just stare into space and ask yourself, "What the hell am I doing with my life?" Anyways for some reason listening to this song took me back to a time when I performed the star spangeled banner in front of about 6,000 people at the Kick Boxing Championships in A.C. I was so well rehearsed and prepped. You see, I studied Marvin Gaye's Version when he performed it at the NBA Game. I liked his version cause it was cool you know, and I sounded like him a litte so I said im a sing it similar to him. I finally got it down to a perfection...I was so ready man, then I had the rehearsal...I killed it!!! I was nervous as SH&T but I was feeling it after the rehearsal. All of a sudden my rep or manager at that time told me that he didnt like that version and that I should do it the original way...MAN THAT F'D ME UP!!!From that point on I was so nervous, and then I started thinking alot like man, I gotta do it the origianl way...
How did the show turn out? Well I did a good job, People told me I sounded like Marvin, but I felt like it was Good but not Great. I didnt kill it like i did in my reahearsal...Whats my point?
My point is this...BLOCK OUT ALL DISTRACTIONS when it's game time! If you practice a certain way and you feel it's good, do it the way you feel you should do it. Afterall, you are the artist and it is your portrayal of the song. Im not saying if you are under contract witta label and your in the studio with a producer to go against what he's saying, but just do what you do especially while performing. When you go on to the stage, try not to talk to anyone, practice until you feel prepped and ready, get some food, listen to some music, relax, and thats it. Do not listen to anyones crtique about anything cause trust me it WILL mess you up, cause you will think about their negative comments and not about your performance. Hope my mistake in the past was helpful to your future...
