Album vs. Demo

Once again another great debate. This is geared more toward unsigned artists. If your goal is to just make music for fun and for a hobby, than this doesn't pertain to you. This is for those artists strictly trying to get signed to a label...Major or Independant (Another debate, but I'll stick with this one for now). I know a lot of artists, mostly rappers, some singers. Sometimes I don't get to talk to them often, maybe once every 3 months or so. Everytime I ask them about their music they always say the same thing..."Im working on another album" I be like, yo what happened to the other album? NO response. I wisened up, cause I was doing the same thing...I realized that a lot of artist are really good man, but they get caught up in the album world, doing album after album trying to make the next one better than the previous one...or doing mixtape after mixtape. That's Cool for Buzz and to have generally alot of material to work and choose from, but YOU HAVE to get your priorities straight here.

If your goal is to be an underground king with mad mixtapes and albums and circulate the internet with your music via myspace and other sites like that, thas wassup...Most artists should be doing that anyway. But the problem is they get caught up in that life, and never get past the next step. The truth is many artists (including myself) put mad work into an album, and think they will get signed. ANd when they don't get signed, they do another Album and another one, and then you have a hot artist with like 4,5 albums, some buzz, but no deal. What's the problem here?

FOCUS! PERSISTANCE! When I ask you how your music is doing, this should be your answer..."I got my album, im promoting that, but Im focusing on shopping this demo to these labels" Focus on 4 songs and mix the SH** out of it until it's perfect. Perform it, and Shop it...NOTE I haven't gotten there yet, but I realize if I'm going to get signed, im going to have to shop hard...it's my resume and im trying to find a job ya dig...

Listen you do what you want, but if u been trying to get signed for 8 years now like me...Something has to change in your approach.
